Thursday 18th January

With the whole country suffering a period of cold icy weather at the moment, Tranmere have rented a hot air blanket to try to ensure that the game will go ahead this weekend. They seem confident that the game can be played and it would be nice to get this one out of the way against another one of our relegation rivals (provided we don’t lose that is). With two Saturdays allocated to the FA Cup in January, it could be a rather lean month for fixtures (and my diary) if it does fall victim to Jack Frost.

The Football League computer is a strange device. When we played Watford away on the 23rd of December all of the games in this division were a reversal of the opening day of the season fixtures. This was game number 23, which was half of the fixtures, meaning that there was at least one team that we hadn’t played – Tranmere. We played them in the next fixture, but now find ourselves playing them again less than 4 weeks later. We also played Crewe twice in fairly quick succession so they don’t spread the fixtures very well.

I thought that all the transfer speculation regarding a certain Zimbabwean striker was finished, but Birmingham’s interest in Derby County’s Dean Sturridge might make Ndlovu available once again. Also mentioned was that Andy Booth is out of contract at the end of the season and that he might be a possible target, but let’s not start the will he/won’t he saga again for either of them.

A big thank you to Machala for putting up with me doing this and Ian for his support and my Mum for her proof reading.
