Wednesday 9th August

Bloody Hell, they've done it! They've actually found the errant petty cash tin key and signed a player. Admittedly there was no transfer fee involved, but Kevin Gallen who was out of contract from QPR has taken the plunge, and he will be wearing blue and white vertical stripes instead of hoops next season.

I should feel euphoric that the club has finally made a signing, but even though the first league game is only 3 days away I am still finding it hard to get truly excited. It probably doesn't help that our friends at Vile Parade have followed up last weeks signing of Dan Petrescu with that of Benito Carbone today. I have no love for Bradford, but find myself having to give credit to their efforts to bring in better quality players to improve the flair of the team.

I'll probably feel more excited after we have soundly thrashed Watford, but I usually feel a little flat when the footy season starts again, maybe because in days of yore when it started in early September it meant back to school and rapidly darkening evenings. I would prefer a later start to the campaign by a couple of weeks as the crowd seems to suffer post-holiday torpor, and this can make the atmosphere a little lifeless. It would also give the opportunity for a couple of extra night matches and I love these because they seem to have a real buzz to them.

A big thank you to Machala for putting up with me doing this and Ian for his support and my Mum for her proof reading.
