Tuesday 26th September.

Barry has spoken, and is laying the blame on the lousy start to the season firmly at Bruce’s door. His sidekick Ian Ayre left the club today so he will have to do a little more of the talking until a new chairman is appointed. Apparently be monitoring the situation on a daily basis although this is a little worrying because the inference is that he hasn’t previously been keeping tabs on things. With a tough looking trip to Carrow Road on Saturday, the prospect of an immediate improvement in the points tally looks unlikely. There doesn’t seem to be much prospect of any new investment in the club either from the existing board or any new backers.

I think the players must take it in turns to try to make positive noises to placate the faithful, and tonight it was the turn of Ben Thornley who finally figured on the team sheet on Saturday. He feels that the squad can turn things around and that the mood in the Town camp is fine. Unfortunately, the mood on the terraces is less than fine and we’re not quite as stupid as we look. We know we are watching a side that seems to have lost that spark that makes a side successful. His contract expires next summer and he hasn’t had any kind of offer to date so he may yet become another victim of Mr Rubery’s economy drive.

I’m not sure why they keep trialing players when they seem determined never to sign any of them. However, the latest brief visitor to the McAlpine is Bolivian striker Jaime Moreno who has been plying his trade in the USA and has previously played for Middlesbrough. I will treat his arrival with a pinch of salt unless I see his photograph on the back page of The Examiner looking resplendent in a blue and white shirt standing between Barry Rubery and Steve Bruce.

There is mixed news on the injury front, with Jamie Vincent’s ankle and Chris Holland’s Achilles preventing them from taking part in tomorrows reserve game, whilst Kevin Gray also suffered a setback after taking a knock in training. However, Steve Jenkins will play for the reserves following his knee injury picked up against Watford on the opening day of the season.
