Friday 20th October.

It’s my birthday today, and life should begin now having reached the ripe old age of 40. I have been watching my beloved Huddersfield Town for about 30 of those years and have seen 4 relegations and 3 promotions during this time although this means there have been 23 years of very little. I have just tried to count the number of managers who have been at the Town helm, and got to 12 although I think I might have missed one or two. Bearing in mind that Mick Buxton was in charge twice, as was Tom Johnston, and that Buxton was at one time one of the leagues longest serving managers, this is quite some turnover. The average life expectancy is around 2 years and this must be a really encouraging statistic for those potential managers who have thrown their hat in the ring for the present vacancy.

One name that has definitely been ruled out is that of Peter Jackson, even though this might be a popular choice for many in the Kilner Bank who were sorry to see him go 18 months ago. As part of a statement from Barry Rubery, he ruled out any possibility of a return for Jacko, and added that they have a good rapport and speak regularly. I find this amazing although I wouldn’t be surprised if Jackson’s contribution to the dialogue was two words the second of which was “off”. Quite unbelievably Rubery still believes that the next manager will be able to take us to the play-offs this season. I hope you’re right Barry, but last time someone performed miracles like that was 2000 years ago and he was born in Bethlehem.

We are in the thick of a busy period of games, which brings Preston North End to the McAlpine tomorrow. This is their first season back in this division following their promotion last season, and they seem to have been riding the promotion wave this season and currently occupy 6th place in the table.

A big thank you to Machala for putting up with me doing this and Ian for his support and my Mum for her proof reading.
