Friday 11th August.

The team selection for tomorrow's game against Watford has still to be announced, but it sounds as though we might play Clyde Wijnhard, Martin Smith and Kevin Gallen up front tomorrow. Perhaps with the injury problems in defence, Steve Bruce is going to adopt a tactic of all out attack.

The defence may be bolstered by the inclusion of Jamie Vincent who might be able to play after all. Despite suffering his broken arm after his Workmate diving escapade, he may after all be fitted with a lightweight cast for the duration of the match. They might be better leaving the normal solid one on, allowing him to 'clock' a few Watford players.

I am dismayed to hear that the Kevin Gray rumour isn't just a rumour. It seems that having laid out the princely sum of nowt on Kevin Gallen, we now have to offload a player (or more?) and 'Big Kev' seems to be the favourite having joined Stockport County on loan today. Steve Bruce sounded rather dischuffed when he was interviewed on Radio Leeds Leeds Leeds, serving to reinforce my opinion that he won't see out a full season at Town. Apparently Gray wouldn't have played tomorrow anyway because he is ill (sick of playing for an unambitious club?), but it doesn't bode well for his longevity.

I am lousy at making predictions for the season, year after year I keep predicting that this will be our season, and I'm seldom right. However, I have listed the teams below in the position I think they will finish this campaign. Next May will reveal whether I am anywhere close, but doubtless it will be a complete work of fiction.

I fancy big spending Blackburn and Fulham to do well along with Bolton who seem too good for the first division but not good enough for the Premier league. At the other end I don't think Stockport will survive again and would have predicted Gillingham's demise, but for my Brother-in-Law I will give them 21st spot.

More importantly, I don't think Town are good enough for a top six finish once again. Time will tell!
