Thursday 22nd June.

The fixture lists were finally released today. The season begins on the 12th of August at home (hooray!) against Watford following their brief flirtation with the premier league last season, followed by a trip to Sheffield Wednesday the Saturday after, so I think that will be worth a visit. The first round of the Worthington Cup is sandwiched in between these two games but the opposition hasn't been revealed yet.

The third relegated club, Wimbledon, visit the McAlpine on the 12th of September so perhaps it's time for a spot of revenge after they fluked wins against us in the FA Cup and Worthington Cup in recent years. Christmas brings home games against Tranmere on the 26th, and Sheffield Wednesday on the 30th, but once again the Football League computer has been unkind with possibly the worst fixture on New Years day, away at Crystal Palace.

Easter Saturday brings Fulham up north on the 14th of April, followed by a visit to Blackburn on Easter Monday thereby ruling out a Bank Holiday visit to one of the nicer parts of the country. Last game of the season is at home (hooray!) to Birmingham (oh no not again) on Sunday the 6th of May. Last time we played Birmingham on the last fixture of the season, we had to endure yet another gutless display (have we ever played well in the final fixture since we moved to the McAlpine?), and had to suffer their promotion party.

No shocks today from our near neighbours with the confirmation of the appointment of Chris Hutchings as first team manager. Geoffrey Richmond claims that internal appointments have served them well in the past, although this is probably Geoffrey speak for not wishing to put his hand in his pocket too deeply.

A big thank you to Machala for putting up with me doing this and Ian for his support and my Mum for her proof reading.
