Wednesday 28th June.
The old rumour-mill is in action again, with Steve Jenkins being
linked with a move to Birmingham City. I am not Jenkins number 1
fan, but it is the position where we need to be adding players and
not letting one go. At times last season he played like a man who
knew his place wasn't under any threat, and if the Nicky Eaden links
are true then it should provide some much needed competition for
the right back slot. I'm not sure if Thomas Heary is ready yet,
but he might still give us another option. Anyway the rumours have
been denied so let's see what develops.
Town will appear on Sky twice in September away at Notts. Forest
on September 3rd, where we also played in a televised match last
season and won comfortably 3-0, so perhaps it's an omen. The other
game is against Wimbledon at home on the 12th of September and hopefully
this will be as exciting as some of our other televised night matches
at the McAlpine. Some of our memorable games include thrilling last
minute 3-2 wins against Oldham and Blackburn and a magnificent comeback
to earn a 3-3 draw against Bradford after being 3-0 down at one
stage.
The Bradford exodus continued today with former Town coach Terry
Yorath resigning, and it looks as if he is going to join Paul Jewell
at Sheffield Wednesday as first team coach. They must have known
it was coming, because within hours of Yorath's departure yet another
former Town man, Malcolm Shotton, has replaced him. Let's hope that
with 2 ex-Town men in charge they are able to achieve what Paul
Jewell didn't - relegation!
