Friday 14th July.
The 'early bird' season ticket offer has now been finished for
a week, and Mr Ayre is spinning his rhetoric once again asking us
to be patient on the signings front. This is the same Chairman who
asked for the support of the fans, and having overseen the sale
of a record 8,423 season tickets cannot deny that the supporters
have shown their commitment.
Wake up Mr Ayre, listen to the long-suffering fans and get those
short arms into those deep pockets. Our average crowd last season
was around 13,000 and probably about 12,000 of these were home supporters,
meaning that roughly a third of our turnout was made up of floating
fans. These floaters need to be persuaded that the McAlpine Stadium
is a more attractive venue than B&Q, and one or two timely signings
might convince them that 90 minutes of football would beat the hell
out of fixing that squeaky gate.
Our Chairman insists that on the signings front they are trying.
Oh yes Mr Ayre you are trying, very trying.
Town played a practice match against Doncaster Rovers today with
the game divided into three 30-minute periods. The game took place
at the Storthes Hall training facility, and Martin Smith scored
the only goal of the game to give Town a winning start to the season.
