Thursday 3rd May.
One definite absentee for the final big hurdle of the season is
Martin Smith who was today having surgery on his dodgy knee as once
again he has been plagued by various injuries this season, and although
he has scored 8 times in his truncated season we could do with him
available on a more consistent basis. Hopefully the surgery will
do the trick as he is a talented player, but no doubt next season
it will be his ankle, his groin, his hamstring or some other problem.
Presumably Clyde Wijnhard (remember him?) will be raring to go
next season and perhaps Booth and Wijnhard will spearhead the attack
with Facey allowed to maraud down one of the flanks. Who knows what
Macari’s plans are but I suppose we’d better get Sunday out of the
way before we begin to think about the next campaign.
Near neighbours Halifax Town finally got the point they needed
to avoid dropping back into the Conference with a 0-0 draw against
Division 3 champions Brighton. They have hovered around the foot
of the table all season but it’s now between the bottom two, Barnet
and Torquay, who in a perverse quirk of the fixtures meet each other
on Saturday. I am hoping it’s the north London club who go down
otherwise I will lose another club from my list of visited league
grounds.
