Wednesday 19th July.

Town trialists are like buses - you wait and wait for one to come along, then suddenly two arrive at once. The latest player to be given the opportunity to wear the coveted blue and white shirt is Polish international (another international?) midfielder Tomek Iwan. When I saw the headline in the Examiner, I thought that we were re-signing Iwan Roberts although this wouldn't surprise me now that the Andy Booth trail seems to be stone cold. He has been plying his trade at PSV Eindhoven, and prior to that he was with Feyenoord, so this is quite some CV. If he joins us it will increase our Dutch influence further, so perhaps we should start wearing orange shirts.

Town's second game of their Scottish tour took place tonight at East End Park against Dunfermline Athletic. Newly promoted to the Scottish Premier League the Town side selected included Iwan Tomek for the full 90 minutes, and apart from all of the second half substitutions had the look of a more familiar line up.

It sounds as though Ben Thornley had a good game, which following the recent departure of Stavros he should still be able to give us the width we so badly needed at times last season. It was also nice to see Chris Hay get on the scoresheet as he looked seriously out of his depth following his £70,000 signing from Swindon late last season. I still feel that he may yet prove to be very good value having been a prolific scorer for the Robins.

Another source of encouragement is that our Polish trialist reportedly had a good game showing some nice touches, and managing a full 90 minutes despite being short of pre-season training. Let's hope something comes out of it.
